November Offerings

November brings some of the bluest skies, pretty leaves on the ground, and this year, acorns! So many acorns.

~November at the Little Blue Cabin~

It is almost time to cut down the Christmas tree. The blue cabin has had its first dusting of snow and it is feeling like the holidays There is a chill in the air, while the crescent moon hangs in the sky. Little kitty waits on the stoop for someone to let her in. She is ready to curl up by the fire inside after an evening of chasing small night creatures around the garden.

So many little details in this piece. It is entirely hand sewn and primitively made using early bits and pieces of old textiles to make something new and pretty.

If your visiting for the first time, I have been creating these kinds of pieces for as long as I can remember. I call them cloth paintings. Because of the age of the fabric, some places are a little tattered. I find that charming but wanted to make sure that you noticed.

Behind the fence, on one side there are peeks of a winter garden. While a big old oak tree grows next to the cabin on the other.

There are a few of its leaves at the bottom, and acorns are scattered around the top.

There is even a little wreath on the door made from the stem of a real oak leaf!

This piece was made with lots of love and little stitches. It is backed by vintage blue checked flannel that has been meticulously removed from the back of an old quilt. There is a sleave so that you may hang this with a dowel if you choose.

It is larger than most of my pieces, 14" wide x 12" long.

~Father Christmas~

An old German-style Santa, dressed in a blue homespun with rusty bells. Tied around his waist is a vintage fabric belt, and he has a warm winter white wool scarf wrapped around his neck.

He is holding acorns and preserved juniper with its lovely blue berries.

Santa has stitched and painted eyes, a needle sculpted nose, and a felted wool beard that has been sourced from a local farm.

He is gusseted and weighted on the bottom with walnut hulls.

Standing 10" tall, he is the perfect size to tuck into a cupboard for the Christmas season.

~Happy Pumpkin Girl~ SOLD

She has a twinkle of joy!
Maybe because autumn is finally coming.

She is dressed in browns and blue. Her patch is early calico. And under her dress, she is wearing bloomers.

Her shawl is hand-knitted with an antique button attached. It's color is brighter here, true color is more of a gray-blue almost like in the last picture. I could not capture it in with the lighting today.

She also has a little vintage button on the back of her dress to gather.

Holding a little fabric pumpkin, she is 15" tall including her real pumpkin stem. She stands on a wooden base.

One of a kind, and she is signed.

~"Autumn Wash Day" Textile Folk Art~SOLD

This little piece was inspired by my weekly bedding wash day. The only thing that I always hang on the line. Who doesn't love the smell of fresh laundered quilts and sheets that have dried in the sunshine?

This is hand-stitched and primitively made using early bits and pieces of quilts and old textiles appliquéd together.

Everything is pieced together on a vintage fabric and then sewn onto an early piece of quilting

I loved the backing from this old cutter quilt which is a pretty piece of indigo blue homespun used to frame the picture.

I have added a sleeve on the back for hanging, or you use it as a candle mat.

It measures 9 1/2" x 7"

There are many stitches in this little primitive piece.

It is an original and one of a kind piece made with lots of love. It will be signed and dated

choose joy!

Happy Day!

A day to leave a bouquet of flowers for neighbors and friends. With so many spring blossoms blooming, it really is a joyful time of the year.

I have one offering this month, it was inspired by the blooms in my front garden...tulips, just starting to bloom, snowflake flowers, and spring daffodils. I've also added a touch of blue here and there for the many forget-me-nots that find their way to just the right spot in the garden.

"Pitcher Full of Happiness" Textile Art

A fresh bouquet of flowers cut from my garden and placed in an ironstone pitcher. It is entirely hand sewn and primitively made using early bits and pieces of old textiles to make something new and pretty.

This piece was made with lots of love and little stitches. It is backed by a vintage piece of natural textured fabric cut from a bolt that I found at a local estate sale. I have also added a sleave so that you may hang this with a dowel if you choose.

It is larger than most of my pieces,12" wide x 15" long.

Strawberry Seeds Pincushion Set ~ This is Sold

This pincushion is made to look like a vintage seed pack of Strawberries. I LOVED making this. I have a few others started (different ones, not strawberries) and would have had those to offer also if I didn't get myself in a poison ivy patch gardening!! They will be coming soon on my website ;)

Stitched on a vintage piece of fabric are two strawberries made from the prettiest early red calicos. Their caps are also old calico but not early, probably from around the 1930's.

"Strawberry" and "Everbearing" lettering is hand-stitched to look like an old font.

It is backed by a fun vintage quilt piece. Lightly stained and filled with cleaned sawdust, it measures 6" by 5".

Also included is an old pin that I covered with vintage red velvet to look like a strawberry (green wool cap). It's 4" long.

This is a Rabbit Hill Primitives copyright design and will be signed and dated.

Humble Bear ~ SOLD

Sweet faced bear with a stitched nose and early shoe button eyes.

Arms and legs are both string jointed.

She has a rusty bell tied around her neck.

Bears cushion is a 7" square. This is filled with clean sawdust and can be used as a pincushion.

One side is made from brown checked homespun with an early bone button in center.

All seams are stitched over with brown floss in little "x's".

The other side is an vintage quilt square with a rose in the center.

She is slightly weighed for a lovely feel. 9 1/2" tall standing and almost 7" tall in seated position.

One of a kind, she will be signed and dated.

Primitive Spring Bloom Box

Heart shaped box covered in a lovely primitive green fabric.

The top is a made from a linen homespun.

"Bloom" is hand-stitched on top with a pansy made from a scrap from a vintage quilt. This is hand stitched on top of the box with a few layers of cotton batting sandwiched in between.

Included is a lovely old pin and a big handful of buttons. 4 1/2" by 4 1/2".

An original design, this will be signed and dated.
