Happy  Day!

A day to leave a bouquet of flowers for neighbors and friends.  With so many spring blossoms blooming, it really is a joyful time of the year. 

I have one offering this month, it was inspired by the blooms in my front garden...tulips, just starting to bloom, snowflake flowers, and spring daffodils. I've also added a touch of blue here and there for the many forget-me-nots that find their way to just the right spot in the garden.

"Pitcher Full of Happiness" Textile Art

A fresh bouquet of flowers cut from my garden and placed in an ironstone pitcher. It is entirely hand sewn and primitively made using early bits and pieces of old textiles to make something new and pretty.  

If your visiting for the first time, I have been creating these kinds of pieces for as long as I can remember.  I call them cloth paintings.  Because of the age of the fabric, some places are a little tattered.  I find that charming but wanted to make sure that you noticed.

This piece was made with lots of love and little stitches.  It is backed by a vintage piece of natural textured fabric cut from a bolt that I found at a local estate sale. I have also added a sleave so that you may hang this with a dowel if you choose.

 It is larger than most of my pieces,12" wide x 15" long. 

All of these types of pieces are made one of a kind. Thank you always.

Mama Bunny

Mama rabbit is holding her little baby bunny.  

She is wearing a dress with a bow made from early blue calico.  

Her arms and legs are sewn into place. She is holding her little baby.  Both have stitched faces and flax whiskers. She is about 11″ tall, and slightly weighted on the bottom with walnut hulls.

Garden Rabbit

Rabbit is wearing an apron made from an early quilt. 

She is 8″ tall, weighted slightly with walnut hulls. Her features are stitched and applied, flax whiskers, and needle felted sheep wool tails, both of which are sourced locally.  The inside of her ears are an old brown fabric.

Miss Rabbit is holding a large radish made from early red calico, with vintage green fabric leaves.

Hummingbird "Beautiful Day" Pincushion ~ SOLD, Thank you!

This little pincushion is made from early fabrics, and lots of little stitches. We've had so many hummingbirds this year, I knew that I needed to sew one! She is looking for nectar in the yellow daylily.

This pincushion is filled with locally sourced sheep wool.

Springtime Keepsake Set ~ Sold

Every March I seem to do at least one piece with snowdrops.  They are so inspiring, a favorite of mine, and to me, they are the harbingers of spring.  

 

This set includes a the little pincushion filled with lavender and walnut hulls. 

 Appliqued bits of old textiles to make a little picture. It is backed by a vintage kantha quilt. It is 3" x 3" (old buttons included)

 

The keepsake box is covered with two different fabrics, and aged very nicely.  It measures 4"x4" and is 2" high.

The tiny bunny has stitched and beaded eyes, a little stitched nose, flax whiskers, and a wool tail. He is 5"

Hand Knit and Felted Bird Nest ~ All Sold

Every winter after Christmas, I get a craving to knit something. I think I need a change from sewing. I only seem to finish small projects and am still working on a shawl started 3 years ago! 

This year, I made a few nests using different wool yarns, hemp, and ribbons.  Tucked inside is a bed of sheeps wool and a little speckled quail egg. 

Hand knitted and then felted for a natural, primitive look. 4" wide

Bunny Blue and her Nest ~ SOLD 

Bunny Blue is mounted on a wooden stand and is a little over 15" tall.

Dressed in a blue checked homespun dress, and a blue jacket with collar trimmed in an early crochet lace edging. A blue wool scarf is tied around her neck.

Her eyes are stitched and beaded. Her nose is also stitched, and she has flax whiskers.

She is holding a little robin's nest with hand molded blue clay eggs.

Made from natural grain sack. Sweet hand stitched patch made from early fabric.  Measures 7"x8", not including the hanging loop.  The backside is unbleached natural osnaburg.  Beautiful texture.

"I wear your heart around my neck" Primitive Rabbits ~ BOTH SOLD

I have two large primitive rabbits that have a valentine (removable) around their neck, and also wearing an early fabric necktie.

They are 12" tall, have a stitched face, flax whiskers, and a needle felted wool tail. Weighted lightly for easy standing. The red heart has an early quilt patch and "love" patch hand stitched on to it.

Daffy Dill Field Mouse ~ Thank you, he is sold!

Happy May!  Tonight I have one wee little offering that I am so in love with!

His name is Daffy Mouse and he is made from an old vintage feed sack.
He is hand-painted and feels worn and old.  He has french knotted eyes, a little stitched nose, flax whiskers, and a hemp tail.

Tucked in his little paws is a large hand-painted and distressed cloth daffodil with a cloth covered wire stem.  (The daffodil can be removed when the season is over.) 

He is sitting on a little wool pincushion tuffet. 
Total overall height from bottom of pincushion to top of daffodil is 8 1/2".

 This is an original design and will be signed.

First, Let me introduce these three little bunnies sitting on wool tuffet pincushions.

They are both holding a vintage velvet strawberry.

 I have a lighter gray and a darker gray one.

 They are 9" tall, have stitched faces, flax whiskers, and a wool needle felted bunny tail.

The darker gray rabbit is holding a blue strawberry.  His inner ears are lined with antique repro calico with hints of blue.

 The lighter gray rabbit is holding a red vintage velvet berry with hints of red lining his ears.

Lastly I have 2 bunnies sitting on cloth calico covered boxes.

 

They are not attached and are weighted so they may sit on their own.

 The first is a darker gray rabbit sitting on an oval box.  The box is covered in pretty blue calico, which has been aged to have a nice soft worn look and feel.  Rabbit is 7" long, and box is 5"x3" and 2 1/2" tall.

The second bunny is a lighter gray.  She is sitting on a round cloth covered box using two different antique repro calicos.  She is 5 1/2" long.  The box measures 4" diameter and is 2" tall.
