~~ China Doll in Spring Garden ~ ~ SOLD ~~

This piece is inspired by a love of old quilts, dolls and flowers all rolled into one.  I've always wanted to make a quilt but have no patience for making them...precision is not my strong point, I'm more of a freehand kind of girl!

 

She is a little china head doll walking through her spring garden.  

 This folky piece is primitively done and made from lots of old and early pieces appliquéd on to an old feed sack...........like a cloth painting.  

 

It is backed by a nice piece of old blue homespun.  I've sewn a sleeve on the back for hanging using a dowel rod or a sturdy twig would be nice.

  

 It measures 6" wide by slightly over 8" tall. 

  

There are many many stitches in this primitive piece.  Tattered and torn in some places because of the age of the fabric.  Please click on the photos to enlarge for a much better look.

July Garden Fairy ~ 3rd in Series

"Primitive Garden Fairy Rag Doll"

All the little fairies in this series are scrap dolls, using a bit of this and a touch of that.

July fairy is a touch of Americana but not over the top. She is wearing a primitive dress made from early blue nubby homespun. Her pocket is from 19 century red calico and her wings are also early made from a lovely linen homespun....all are hand sewn.

She has a sweet charcoal penciled face done in an early style.

Measuring just 7" tall. She is not from a pattern but hand drawn. This little fairy's body is made from aged muslin and filled with old rags. I've added a loop on back for easy hanging

She is the third in a series of primitive garden fairies. I'll be offering a new one each month.

June Garden Fairy ~ ~ 2nd doll in series

"WOODLAND GARDEN FAIRY AND HER SEED BAG"

Little fairy is made from old scraps.

She is wearing a simple primitive brown dress and her wings are made from a lovely vintage blue ticking.

Her body is aged soft muslin.

She has a sweet charcoal penciled face.
Measuring just 6 1/2" tall. She is not from a pattern but hand drawn.

She is filled with rags and old cotton. I've added a loop on back for easy hanging

Tiny Garden Fairy comes with a seed bag.

This I made from EARLY blue homespun with a make-do patch from my most favorite early blue calico.


The seed bag measures approximately 8" by 5" wide and is filled with a heaping scoop of dried lavender buds ~ IT SMELLS HEAVENLY.

Display woodland fairy and her seed bag together or separately.


She is the second in a series of primitive garden fairies. I'll be offering a new one each month.

"Fairy Berrie" Tiny fairy is made from old scraps.

She measures a wee 7" tall.

Her strawberry is made from an old quilt that is stuffed with clean sawdust.

Her body is distressed muslin and her wings are early 19th century homespun linen.

Little Fairy Berrie wears a simple hand stitched dress made from 19c red calico.
Her sweet face is drawn on with a charcoal pencil.

She is the first in a series of primitive garden fairies which I'll be offering a new one each month.
